چکیده

A pulse timing orbit has been obtained for the X-ray binary XTEJ1855-026 using observations made with the Proportional Counter Array on board the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer. The mass function obtained of ∼16M⊙ together with the detection of an extended near-total eclipse confirm that the primary star is a supergiant as predicted. The orbital eccentricity is found to be very low with a best fit value of 0.04 ± 0.02. The orbital period is also refined to be 6.0724 ± 0.0009 days using an improved and extended light curve obtained with RXTE’s All Sky Monitor. Observations with the ASCA satellite provide an improved source location of R.A. = 18 55 31.3, decl. = -02 36 24.0 (2000) with an estimated systematic uncertainty of less than 12. A serendipitous new source, AX J1855.4-0232, was also discovered during the ASCA observations. Subject headings: stars: individual (XTEJ1855-026) — stars: neutron — X-rays: stars

Discovery of a 75 Day Orbit in Xte J 1543 - 568

Dedicated monitoring of the transient X-ray pulsar XTE J1543-568 during the first year after its discovery has revealed the unambiguous detection of a binary orbit. The orbital period is 75.56 ± 0.25 d, and the projected semi-major axis 353±8 lt-sec. The mass function and position in the pulse period versus orbital period diagram are consistent with XTE J1543-568 being a Be X-ray binary. The ec...

ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS Evidence for an ∼ 80 day periodicity in the X – ray transient pulsar XTE J 1946 + 274

We report evidence for an ∼ 80 d periodicity in the X–ray flux of the hard transient pulsar XTE J1946+274. The 1.3–12 keV light curve obtained with the RossiXTE All Sky Monitor shows five regularly spaced flares over a ∼ 1 year baseline starting from the outburst onset in Sept. 1998. The first and strongest flare is somewhat longer than the subsequent four flares, which recur in a fairly period...

Pulsar EXO 1722 - 363 - a Candidate Eclipsing Supergiant System

Observations made of the X-ray pulsar EXO1722-363 using the Proportional Counter Array and All Sky Monitor on board the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer reveal the orbital period of this system to be 9.741 ± 0.004 d from periodic changes in the source flux. The detection of eclipses, together with the values of the pulse and orbital periods, suggest that this source consists of a neutron star accret...

INTEGRAL observations of OAO 1657−415: gamma-ray tomography of a B supergiant

OAO 1657−415 is an accreting pulsar in an eclipsing binary system. We analyzed the INTEGRAL core program observations of this object and obtained the eclipse light curve in the soft gamma-ray band between 15 and 40 keV. We note that the gamma rays from the pulsar allow to probe the density profile of the outer layers of the B supergiant companion. We find that the density profile of the outer l...

XTE J1739–302 as a Supergiant Fast X-ray Transient

XTE J1739–302 is a transient X-ray source with unusually short outbursts, lasting on the order of hours. Here we give a summary of X-ray observations we have made of this object in outburst with the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) and at a low level of activity with the Chandra X-ray Observatory, as well as observations made by other groups. Visible and infrared spectroscopy of the mass dono...
